Situation Summary

DIXIE FIRE EVACUATION UPDATES (9/2/2021 2:15PM)

The mandatory evacuation order for the following area have been lifted:

• [PLU Zone 014] Greenville area including Wolf Creek Rd, Hideaway Rd, Round Valley Rd, Williams Valley Rd and south to Stampfli Ln including Pioneer Rd and Forgay Rd. These areas were deemed safe from active fire and hazard trees, though residents should stay alert of changing conditions.

Remember the fire is still active within the burned area and you may see spots of smoke. Fire personnel will still be actively working the interior and edges of the fire. Expect to see hotspots for some time. Do not call 911 to report unless there is an immediate threat to life or property.

Be vigilant to weather and wind conditions and take any future orders seriously, should they change. Just because the flames are out doesn’t mean the danger is over. Damaged trees/terrain and flash flooding are just some of the dangers that exist after a wildfire. DO NOT put yourself or your loved ones in danger by exploring.

While returning home and while fire personnel remain in the area use caution, reduce your speed, drive with your headlights on and yield to emergency personnel.

*The community of Taylorsville still remains under a mandatory evacuation.

*National forest closures remain in effect.

Though the area is deemed accessible, critical infrastructure has been severely interrupted. Please pay
close attention to the following:

• Power has been restored
• No internet or landline phone service (this may affect your ability to call 911!)
• Cell towers should be fully functional
• Local fire and medical services are available in the valley - the ambulance will be stationed in, and be responding from, Taylorsville
  • Please remember fire services have been displaced as well as personnel
• THERE IS CURRENTLY NO POTABLE/DRINKABLE WATER!
  • The water in the Indian Valley Community Services District has tested positive for harmful contaminants including benzene. DO NOT DRINK AND DO NOT BOIL YOUR WATER! Plan to use bottled water for the foreseeable future.

• No pharmacy or ability to refill prescriptions
• Food services will be delayed - Evergreen Market is working to reopen as soon as possible, however, Gigi’s Market in Crescent Mills is open
• Other essential services could be delayed as well

Plumas County is providing the following information to victims of the fire:

Residents with unaffected structures may inhabit them.

Anyone accessing burned properties should use extreme caution and are highly discouraged from disturbing ash or burned debris. Doing so is hazardous to health and could disqualify the parcel from government assistance to clean the site. The sifting phase should occur in the next few weeks - please be patient.

Current Situation:

Dixie Fire West Zone: The fire continued to burn actively through the night with terrain driven winds. The northern portion of the fire burned in the understory with isolated torching in the northern section west of HWY 44. The southern portion of the fire burned downslope towards HWY 395 until the winds subsided and started to change direction about midnight. Crews from the West Zone are assisting the East Zone to complete contingency lines both north and south of Janesville and Milford. Fire crews will continue to use old control lines from previous fires, where applicable, as well establishing new lines. Fuel moistures are historically low, and Northern California remains under Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory. Today, light east to southeast winds are forecasted across the east of the fire area. 

Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and to monitor evacuation information and road closures, including social media and local law enforcement websites for the most current information. Residents will see smoke coming from trees and stumps for days following their return. Proceed with caution because burned out areas may have unseen hazards. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they are concerned about any active flames near their homes or businesses. Damage assessment remains ongoing. Change in threatened structures due to new Evacuation Warnings in Lassen, Plumas and Shasta County.

Dixie Fire East Zone: Resources are positioned to keep the fire from spreading east and north towards Dixie Valley and Milford as well as south towards Clover Valley and Portola. Crews will construct line directly on the fires edge and work in coordination with the West Zone to get around the finger-shaped blaze from Queen Creek to the escarpment and bring in air resources to keep fire from impacting Milford and Highway 395. Crews will continue to prepare and defend structures in Milford. The containment line from the west side of Lake Davis to Grizzly Ridge and north to Taylorsville will continue to be reinforced, moppedup, and patrolled to protect the Highway 70 corridor. Ten handcrews of soldiers from Joint Base Lewis McChord will join the fire fight today, assisting firefighters in Genessee, Grizzly Ridge, and Clover Valley areas. Structure protection remains in place within Clover Valley, Dixie Valley, Genesee, Taylorsville, Greenhorn, and Cromberg.

National Forest Closures

The Pacific Southwest Region is temporarily closing all R5 National Forests to provide better public and firefighter safety due to extreme fire conditions throughout the state and strained firefighting resources throughout the country. This closure will be effective on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. through September 17, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. This Order does not affect the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, which is not in the Pacific Southwest Region. 

The Lassen National Forest's Order No. 06-21-08: Expanded Dixie Fire Closure Order prohibits the public from entering within the Dixie Fire Closure Area or any National Forest System Roads or trails described in Exhibits A & B. (https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd940211.pdf). This Order is in effect until November 30, 2021.

The Plumas National Forest’s Order No. 05-11-00-21-21: Dixie Fire Phases 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Expanded Closure Order prohibits the public from entering within the Dixie Fire Closure Area or any National Forest System road or trail described in Exhibit A and B. Bureau of Land Management

The Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail near Susanville, as the Bureau of Land Management, has rescinded a temporary emergency closure associated with the Dixie Fire. Also reopened are the Hobo Camp and Devil’s Corral trailheads and all other BLM-managed lands that were affected by the emergency closure that went into effect on Aug. 16. This includes BLM-managed lands south of California Highway 36, west of U. S. 395. and north and east of the Lassen National Forest boundary.

Evacuee Campsites:

Lassen National Forest: The Lassen National Forest has the Christine Campground on Eagle Lake Ranger District and the Bridge Campground on the Hat Creek Ranger District available for evacuees. Evacuee's primary residence must be under mandatory evacuation and need to check in with the campsite's hosts. Before you go, make sure the campgrounds are not under any evacuation warnings. Lassen Volcanic National Park: All of Lassen National Park is closed to all access due to the Dixie Fire.

Plumas Evacuee Campsites: Plumas National Forest - Campgrounds available to evacuees include Meadow Camp, Rock Creek, and Deanes Valley Campgrounds in the Meadow Valley area, in addition to Red Bridge Campground off La Porte Road. Contact the Plumas National Forest Supervisors Office at (530) 283-2050 or the Mt.
