FRAP and the Office of the State Fire Marshal updated Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ). The final regulation and map for the State Responsibility Area (SRA) were adopted on January 31, 2024, effective April 1, 2024.

Now accepting applications for research related to forest and fire management in California. Brief Concept Proposals are due November 14th at 3 PM.
The CAL FIRE Forest Health Research Program supports scientific studies that provide critical information and tools to forest landowners, resource agencies, fire management organizations and policy makers across California on a variety of topics related to forest health and management.
The Fire and Resource Assessment Program compiles and provides Natural Hazard Disclosure maps and data for two types of fire hazard areas referred to in legislation as disclosure items in real estate transactions.
FRAP participates in the national FIA program. The inventory samples all forested lands in the US, regardless of ownership and management objectives. Data collected by the FIA program captures and quantifies tree growth, removal, and mortality.
FRAP is dedicated to coordinating forest fuels reduction and species conservation issues.
CAL FIRE proposes to significantly increase the pace and scale of forest restoration and prescribed fire by 2030. The increase in prescribed fire foreseen for California ecosystems over the coming decades represents a fundamental shift in vegetation management strategy and policy.
FRAP develops an annual Forest Ecosystem and Harvested Wood Product Carbon inventory. This inventory assists the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection in assessing whether the state’s forest carbon sequestration target is being met.
