Incident Update Dixie Fire

Situation Summary

Current Situation:

Dixie Fire West Zone: Firefighters continue to aggressively fight active fire, as winds increase into the beginning of the week, bringing red flag conditions in some areas, and extreme fire behavior is expected. Firefighters continue to patrol fire lines, reinforce primary control lines, and establish secondary and contingency lines. Fire continues to burn in steep and rugged terrain. Cooperating agencies continue to work for the safety of crews, including scouting for roadway repairs, infrastructure needs and removal of dangerous trees and vegetation.

Certain evacuation orders have been reduced to warnings and certain warnings have been lifted allowing some residents to return to their homes and businesses. Returning residents are strongly encouraged to stay vigilant with regard to current fire conditions. Residents may see smoke coming from trees and stumps for days following their return. Proceed with caution. Burned out areas have unseen hazards below ground and overhead. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they are concerned about any active flames near their homes or businesses rather than attempting to deal with such flames themselves.

Dixie Fire East Zone:Red Flag winds and very low relative humidities are expected tomorrow through Tuesday evening. These southwest winds will challenge firefighters on Grizzly Ridge over the next few days as the fire burns actively. Fire Crews continue to shore up the dozer lines around Grizzly ridge toward the Walker fire scar as dozers lines were constructed all the way up to Antelope Lake. Everything east of the Genesee Valley remains secure and mop up continues with tactical patrols looking for hot spots. From the Genesee Valley into Taylorsville crews continue aggressively mopping up as six extra fire engines were added to the protection zones around structures. Several contingency lines have been added between the fire and Quincy, Greenhorn, and communities further south. Crews continue constructing contingency lines north of Lake Davis to protect the homes.

Evacuation Orders:

None.

Evacuation Warnings:

• Butte Meadows: This will include Humboldt Rd at Thatcher Ridge, up to Cherry Hill Campgrounds, north to the Butte/Tehama County lines.
• Jonesville area: The Warning will encompass State Route 32 at the Butte/Tehama County line, east to the area of Cherry Hill Campground, southeast to Snag Lake, southwest to Skyway at Bull Creek, north along Skyway to Humboldt Road.
• Snag Lake area: This will include Humbug Summit Rd at the Butte/Plumas County lines, southwest across Snag Lake to Humbug Summit Rd and Skyway. This warning includes the area surrounding High Lakes Rd near the Carr Mine.
• Lake Philbrook area: This area includes Philbrook Lake south to Browns Ravine Rd just east of 25N22, east to the Butte/Plumas County lines.

Bureau of Land Management

The Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail near Susanville, as the Bureau of Land Management, has rescinded a temporary emergency closure associated with the Dixie Fire. Also reopened are the Hobo Camp and Devil’s Corral trailheads and all other BLM-managed lands that were affected by the emergency closure that went into effect on Aug. 16. This includes BLM-managed lands south of California Highway 36, west of U. S. 395. and north and east of the Lassen National Forest boundary.

Evacuee Campsites:

Lassen National Forest: Eagle Lake and Hat Creek Campsites available for evacuees. Contact Brian.newman@usda.gov  or call 530-338-8745. Evacuees need to check in with the campsite's hosts. Before you go, make sure the campgrounds are not under any evacuation warnings.

Lassen Volcanic National Park: All of Lassen National Park is closed to all access due to the Dixie Fire.

Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the State are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow.
