Current Situation
Situation Summary
Dixie Fire West Zone:
The incident is being managed under Unified Command with California Interagency Management Team 14 and
CAL FIRE.
• The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team has started the post-fire assessment on the Dixie
Fire. As a result of this assesment, Forest Officials on the Lassen National Forest (LNF) have reevaluated and reduced the Dixie Fire area closure.
• Yesterday, reconnaissance flights over the fire found little smoke or active burning. The areas of active
burning are within the fire’s perimeter as pockets of vegetation continue to burn.
• Firefighters completed 4.5 miles of suppression repair along the western side of the fire. This work was
conducted with heavy machinery working to pull vegetation and ground cover on to dozer lines and
construct water control structures to prevent erosion.
• A top priority for firefighters today will be suppression repair around the structures in the Silver Lake
community.
• Firefighters will also prioritize hazarad tree removal along roadways that lead to developed Forest
Service Recreation areas.
• Operating within a Unified Command with Team 14, CALFIRE resources have made significant
progress with mopup and suppression repair from west of the town of Almanor, east to Janesville.
• Firefighter efforts continue to transition from supprression actvities to suppression reapir across the fire
This crucial post fire work includes patroling the perimeter for sources of heat near containment lines
and backhaul of equipment—such as hose, pumps, garbage, hand tools—that is no longer needed for fire
suppression.
• The active U.S. Army personnel who have been assisiting with West Zone fire-suppression and repair
efforts have completed their mission and will be leaving to assist in the East Zone today.
• The public is advised to be cautious along local roadways as fire traffic will be conducting patrols and
suppression repair.
