Current Situation

Situation Summary

10/12/2024: The fire is now at 85% containment, with the crews continuing with mop-up efforts today. Fire weakened trees and snags continue to be a concern for firefighter safety. We have a team of Resource Advisors working to assess any fire suppression repair efforts needed, by creating a plan to repair any damage that may have occurred during the full suppression fire fight, and to help prevent potential erosion from dozer lines. The dozers were an essential piece of equipment in securing the containment line.

Yesterday the Forest Order went into effect restricting access into the Herring Creek, Hammill Canyon Loop. Active fire and hazardous standing trees, and their proximity to roads and trails are clear indicators that the fire area is dangerous. Our number one priority is for firefighter and public safety.

Evacuation Zones

Evacuation Information:

Road Closures

A soft closure on forest road 4N12 is now in place at the intersection of 4N12 known as Hammill Canyon Loop. The closure is for public safety due to several snags, aircraft in the area and firefighters and equipment working on the ground. The closure will be assessed daily and stay in place until it is safe for the public to go back in.
