Situation Summary
As of 10/25/22 at 7:00 AM, Northwest Team 12 has taken command of the Shoe Fire.
UPDATE 11/7/24:
The Shoe Fire perimeter will be patrolled and monitored today while we have 8 excavators, along with crews working to complete the repair suppression on the east and west side contingency lines of the fire.
United States Forest Service law enforcement officials conducted an investigation of the Shoe Fire which ignited on October 9,2024, and determined that the fire originated within a meadow on private land prior to spreading through adjacent properties and National Forest System lands. The fire was caused by a landowner who lost control of an unpermitted burn he had attempted to manage on his property. The landowner has been charged with violations of federal law.
Four excavators will be working on the east side from Kiwi Dip going north towards Garden Ridge. The remaining four will be on the west side, working on the Curl Ridge Jeep Trail. Road graders will be working on 35N56 road moving towards the 35N18 road to repair these roads to their former state.
WEATHER: Mostly sunny and dry conditions will prevail on Thursday and Friday, with breezy winds Thursday AM then tapering off and becoming lighter in the afternoons. Relative humidity values in the upper teens on Thursday, then an increase in humidity on Friday as a weather system begins to approach the area. Chances of isolated rain showers will enter the burn location Saturday afternoon, where little to no accumulation is expected.
A temporary Forest closure is in effect: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/stnf/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5392380
