Situation Summary

PENCIL FIRE UPDATE 8:30 PM 7/22
The Pencil Fire is an estimated 500 acres, with 90% of the perimeter secured by dozer and retardant lines. All air resources involved in the fire suppression efforts have been released for the night. Fire crews will continue working overnight to build fire lines around the perimeter and to secure existing lines. This will be the final update for the evening. PENCIL FIRE UPDATE 6 :00 PM 7/22
Multiple engines, crews, overhead personnel, and fire suppression aircraft are on the scene. Firefighters are actively working to contain the 200-acre Pencil fire, with ongoing suppression efforts through the night. Smoke will be visible from the highway.
UPDATE 3:50 PM 7/22
The Pencil fire is now estimated at 25 acres with a moderate rate of spread (ROS) in grass and isolated timber. Fire resources are currently making their way into the incident.
