Incident Update Eaton Fire

Situation Summary

Last night firefighters continued tactical patrols and responded to public calls for service. Strong winds overnight contributed to active fire behavior with interior flare ups. Today, minimal fire growth is expected with continued smoldering and creeping. Burned structures and heavy fuels will continue to hold heat. In addition to perimeter control, crews will work to mitigate hazard trees along roadways to provide safety for firefighters and the public.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the upper elevations of the fire area. Last night, gusty and dry Santa Ana winds developed along the northeast edge of the fire. The strongest winds will be restricted to higher elevations and ridge tops. Lower elevations will most likely remain more sheltered.

Community Meeting Sunday, January 12th 4:00 p.m.: Eaton Fire officials will host a community meeting to provide the current fire situation, address questions, and discuss recovery. The meeting will be held in-person and streamed live on YouTube. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

Aerial imagery overlays show approximately 7,081 structures may have been damaged or destroyed. The number of structures damaged and destroyed listed at the bottom of the page are verified by damage assessment teams and will be updated with validated information as it becomes available.

Forest Closures

The entire Angeles National Forest is temporarily closed for public safety and the protection of natural resources from January 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. through Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 12:00 midnight. During this time, the following acts are prohibited within the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel
Mountains National Monument:
1. Going into or being upon the Angeles National Forest. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(e).
2. Being on any National Forest System Road within the Angeles National Forest. 36 C.F.R. §261.54(e).
3. Being on any National Forest System Trail within the Angeles National Forest. 36 C.F.R. § 261.55(a)

State & Local Road Closures

State Route 2 (Angeles Crest Highway)

       • Eastbound SR-2 (Angeles Crest Highway) closed at entrance of Angeles National Forest (postmile 26.7) to south of Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road. (PM 42.7).

Interstate 210 (I-210)
       • Eastbound and westbound I-210 Arroyo Blvd. off-ramps closed.
       • EB and WB I-210 Angeles Crest off-ramps OPEN.
       • Eastbound I-210 Gould Ave. off-ramp OPEN.

Azusa
       • -SR-39 (San Gabriel Canyon Road) is closed as a preventive measure north of Azusa; only residents allowed to enter.
