Current Situation

Situation Summary

The CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit has contained and controlled 20 fires within State responsibility area in the last 48 hours, as well as assisting both the SHF and KNF with numerus others. Siskiyou County received 740 lightning strikes yesterday 8/25. 65 of those strikes were within State Direct Protection Area. (DPA). A total of 3 new fires started yesterday within CALFIRE’s DPA as of 0900 this morning:

Battalion 1 Scott Valley- 0 New Fires 
*Walla Walla – Determined to be in federal DPA. Assisted as needed

*Bear- 9 acres Contained, Patrol Status

 Battalion 2 Shasta Valley: 0 New Fire

Battalion 4 McCloud Pondosa: 1 Fire

* Timber- ¼ acre Contained. Patrol Status

 

Today, resources will continue to check and improve the containment and control of all fires, as well as being prepared for new fires. Both a recon and infrared flights will continue to assess the area for any additional new fires. Today Tuesday, additional thunderstorms are predicted throughout the county. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for abundant lightning on dry fuels in Siskiyou County.
