Incident Update SKU Late August Lightning Complex

The CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit has contained and controlled 27 fires within State Responsibility Area (SRA) in the last 72 hours, as well as continuing to assist both the SHF and KNF with numerus others. The Norther Region received 15,220 lightning strikes and Siskiyou County received 2,382 strikes on 8/26. A total of 9 new fires started yesterday within CAL FIRE’s DPA as of this morning:

Battalion 1 Scott Valley- 3 New Fires 

* Piney- .01 acre, Contained. Patrol Status

* Coyote- .1 acre, Contained. Patrol Status

* Montana- .1 acre Contained. Patrol Status

* Cherry- .1 acre Contained. Patrol Status

* Walla Walla – Determined to be in federal DPA. Assisted as needed

* Bear- 11 acres, Staffed with 2 Engines and 1 Hand Crew

Battalion 2 Shasta Valley: 3 New Fires

* Mussolini- .05 acres, 1 Engine for mop up.

* Juniper- .33 acres Contained, Patrol status.

Battalion 4 McCloud Pondosa: 2 Fire

* Mcnab- .17 acre Contained. Patrol Status

* Grade- 5 acre Contained. Staffed with 2 Engine, 2 Hand Crews, 3 Water Tenders and 2 Dozers. Heavy mop up in timber.

* Timber- ¼  acre Contained. Patrol Status

Today, resources are already responding to additional new fires. Both a recon and infrared flights will continue to assess the area for any additional new fires. Today Wednesday, additional thunderstorms are predicted throughout the county. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for abundant lightning on dry fuels in Siskiyou County.
